Stefanini Celebrates its Second Successful Year in the U.K.

SAO PAULO, Brazil, February 8 /PRNewswire/ --

- Considered the world's third largest IT market, the country is the company's focus in 2008

The English office of Stefanini IT Solutions, one of Brazil's major IT consulting companies, has completed its second year, and operations are going full force. The unit celebrates its fast growth. Operations volume has doubled each year.

The revenue increase results from servicing big, important local and global companies. Marco Stefanini, Stefanini's president, explains that many of the locally serviced customers are global companies. "Besides British enterprises, we also serve many companies that know Stefanini in Brazil and extend their services to other locations. That is the reason it is so important to have a foot in this strategic market", he adds.

Considered Europe's main IT center, the U.K. is the focus of Stefanini's efforts for 2008. "Our main challenge is to consolidate our operations in the U.K. with companies in the financial segment -- an industry in which we have developed our expertise in our 20-year operation in the market," explains Stefanini. The executive does not discard the possibility of growing in the U.K. through acquisitions, either. "We have an eye on British companies. Our intention is to acquire IT services companies."

Presently, around 20% of the company's operating volume is from foreign activities. Stefanini's plan is to increase this percentage to 50% by 2011.

Facebook Releases Site in Spanish; German and French to Follow

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Facebook today announced the first step in a broad plan to internationalize the site with translation into Spanish. German and French versions of Facebook are expected in the coming weeks. Nearly 1,500 Spanish-speaking users on Facebook chose to be part of the effort and translated the site from English to Spanish in less than four weeks.

Current users who want to view Facebook in Spanish can change their language preference from their account settings. Beginning on Monday, Feb. 11, any person who goes to http://www.facebook.com/ from a Spanish-speaking country will see the site in Spanish. Facebook currently has more than 2.8 million active users in Latin America and Spain.

"Over 60 percent of Facebook users are now outside of the U.S., and many live in countries where English is not the primary language," said Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook. "Our goal has always been to allow people to use Facebook in their native language so we built an application to enable users to participate in translating the site into their local languages and dialects. We really appreciate the contribution from users in translating Facebook."

Users who added the Facebook translation application were allowed to submit translations inline while browsing the site. The community then approved all translations through a voting system. For example, users agreed on "dar un toque" to describe the Facebook-coined term "poke."

Many translators are motivated by the impact of their contribution to making the site available to millions who speak their language. The leading Spanish translator was responsible for 1,284 of the winning sentences, almost 3 percent of the entire site.

As the company releases new features, Facebook will continue to empower its users to make these available in their local language. In addition, the translation application will soon be available to Facebook Platform developers who want to have their applications translated by the community.

Facebook users can now also access the mobile site in their supported language through any mobile device with Web capabilities. To sign up for Facebook, users can go to http://www.facebook.com/ or visit m.facebook.com from any mobile device with Internet access.

WOT Study Sheds Light on the Dark Corners of the Internet: The 3 Categories of Websites Causing Most Damage to Users

HELSINKI, Finland, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Websites offering adult content (28% of the dangerous sites analyzed), software (27%), and entertainment (16%) are the most dangerous for Internet users. These sites cause major damage both financially and to computers. These are the findings of an analysis carried out by WOT, Web of Trust. The study is based on analysis of 17 million websites rated by the WOT user community. (http://www.mywot.com/)

-- The study revealed the largest three categories among risky websites: -- Adult content: 28% of the dangerous sites analyzed -- Software: 27% (free and licensed software sold and downloaded over the Internet) -- Entertainment: 16% (movies, games, music, screensavers, smileys) -- Other dangerous categories include search sites, digital marketing providers, and consumer research sites making empty promises of free gifts or money. -- The main vehicle in the above scams is a permanent website, unlike the "throwaway" sites used in phishing attacks carried out with the aid of fraudulent email messages. Dangerous sites usually remain in business for months or years, attracting millions of visitors and causing them damage. -- The nature of this damage is twofold: -- Direct financial damage is caused by non-delivered or poor-quality products, by lack of payment, or through credit/debit card fraud. -- Computer damage is caused by installing malicious software or changing the computer's settings. Increasing online threats include spyware that makes the user vulnerable to further attacks. -- This information, collected in January 2008, covers websites with a poor reputation and active website traffic. -- The 50 websites with the worst reputation: A list of dangerous sites is available at http://www.mywot.com/press/fiftydangerouswebsites Terminology -- Spyware is software that runs on a computer without the permission of its user. It tracks users' online activities, gathers private information from a user's computer, and sends the resulting data back to the spyware manufacturer over the Internet. Spyware programs can interfere with user control of the computer in other ways also, such as by installing additional software or redirecting web browser activity. Spyware can even change computer settings, resulting in slow connection speeds, a different home page, and loss of Internet or other programs. -- Adware is software that automatically displays or downloads advertising material after the software is installed or while the application is being used. Some types of adware are also spyware. -- Phishing, the most frequently discussed type of Internet fraud, is an attempt to acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details, by pretending to be a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out by email that directs the user to visit a bogus website. Common targets of forgery in phishing attacks are PayPal, eBay, and online banks. Usually each phishing attack uses a different short-term website address. QUOTES:

"With this study we wanted to shed light on the dark corners of the Internet. The findings show that Internet users should be really cautious when downloading software, movies, music, and screensavers, not to mention when visiting sites with adult content," says Esa Suurio, CEO of Against Intuition, Inc. "Many of the dangerous websites are well designed and seem reliable, but if you download content from them you may run into problems, even with the latest security software installed on your PC. In particular, spyware can bypass security controls, leaving you vulnerable to further attacks."

"For us, WOT (Web of Trust) is really about creating a platform for people to share their experience of companies, their websites, and the products they offer. Once Internet users adopt this approach, fraudulent and harmful sites will be short-lived," says Esa Suurio.
